Terrible Twos

Toddlers are cute, like ridiculously cute. Starting to loose their baby fat, and yet keeping just enough for plenty of cheek squishing; it’s no wonder I cave to most of my son’s demands!

I was always warned about the Terrible Two’s and how my adorable baby boy will become Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I have come to learn that they were right… Sort of.

I was being warned that the terrible two’s were terrible for me. That it would make me become so frustrated, angry, hopeless and feeling helpless.

I’ve come to the realization that this point in my son’s life is terrible for him.

He knows some words and can even string some into small sentences, but his vocabulary isn’t big enough to tell me what he wants or needs all the time. And that’s what’s terrible. No longer is a pacifier, bottle or boob the answer. He is his own person, with his own wants and desires.

Last night he had a complete meltdown. Totally inconsolable. The reason? I gave him the water he asked for, but he either changed his mind or was confused and meant milk. (Insert tired mom eye roll)

But really, when these kind of meltdowns happen out of the blue, I immediately am searching for blood. I mean his shrieks could be used in movies as a sound bite of someone being murdered… Lord knows what the neighbors must think! And don’t get me started with fits in public places… Sometimes I feel like I have to hold up my hands to everyone and swear I didn’t do it! (Please Officer! I just picked up his stuffed Mickey the wrong way!)

Even so, none of these experiences or feelings are terrible for me. I try to just remind myself that I am an adult, my brain is developed while his is still trying to sort all these feelings out. Throwing fits is the only way he knows how to deal with his toddler stress! (You’d be stressed too if you were surrounded by giants that spoke a different language you couldn’t understand!)

I (try to) stay calm and reassure him that it’s ok and talk to him like a person; asking him what is wrong, telling him to use his words to let me know what he wants or why he is so upset. He may not completely understand me, but being calm is better than the alternative.

Yelling at a toddler who is frustrated and throwing a fit will only make him cry even harder. Been there, done that.

So yeah, I am not perfect, I would never pretend to be. I have gotten just as frustrated as he has and yelled back… Sometimes it’s hard to tell if he is just trying to push my limits by behaving badly, or if he just can’t EVEN!!

It’s a learning process, and will continue to be for at least the next 20 years! So buckle up mommies, it’s gonna be a hell of a ride! πŸ˜„

But for now… I am his rock; something he can cling to while trying to get through wave after wave of emotions that, in his whole 2 1/2 years of life, he just hasn’t been able to figure out yet.

For now… I have to be the calm when he can’t be, and afterwards I can look back and laugh about it!

Oh! You wanted the other Pluto sticker that is completely identical to the one I am holding? Um… Ok?

You want to cuddle before nap time? Ok! Wait, my boobs are in your way? I’m sorry, I can’t take my boobs off… Really baby, they don’t come off.

No B, you can’t have my (coffee/beer/whatever). I know it’s frustrating not getting your way… *sips said drink*

Why are you crying? Oh, daddy looked in your direction?! How dare he!

You get the point πŸ˜‰ Some of the things he freaks out about seem trivial and hilarious to me, but I have a little laugh to myself as I try to remain calm and stoic (laughing when he’s in a mood can be just as bad as yelling back, he is not one to be mocked).

2 1/2 years is not enough time for most of adults to master a skill. Why should I expect my son, who was just a little helpless human for most of his life, to be an expert in understanding and handling his emotions?

Just something that has been on my mind and wanted to share my thoughts 😊 Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Next post will be a makeup post with a special collaboration, make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss it!

Mani(c) Monday!

You know what they say about best laid plans… I had planned on posting a little get ready for work with me bit, can’t say tutorial because I am no makeup professional and will not pretend to be one! I just really love makeup and what I do works for me, but it’s not always by the books or anything… Buuuut…. since I worked all weekend (and stayed over for a few hours each day) my time at home was spent with my son, and sleeping, and cleaning, oh and laundry too, aka the bane of my existence. So during that time, I really didn’t like what I had come up with so I decided to start fresh today because it’s JUST ANOTHER MANI(C) MONDAAAAAAY! haha Can you guess what I have in store for you?? Drumroll please!….

Pretty little Essie mattes! From left to right we have All Eyes On Nude, Just Stitched, and Coat Couture. Since I took these pics with my phone, I got another angle just for color clarity sake…

Same lineup, just reversed!

So the color I picked for today was All Eyes On Nudes because I guess I love my neutrals on my nails! I have never tried a matte before so I don’t know if some of my critiques are of this product by itself or the whole matte family. Once again I was happily surprised by a super quick dry time. I have a habit of destroying my nails before they even get a chance… such a shame… The package said that these last 2-4 days and are for fashion (as opposed to…?) oh and no top coat because that kind of defeats the purpose.

I don’t know if all mattes are this soft, but my nails feel as smooth as they do with regular shiny polish! I was expecting a chalkboard like texture, which is what has kept me from matte nails because that would just freak me out too much! So now the Cashmere in the name makes way more sense!

I did try the pink one (Just Stitched) but I didn’t love it as much as this one. It had some metallic blues in it which is really strange to see with a matte finish, but I guess, science ya know! I wish I would have taken a picture but I wanted to hurry and finish before my little man woke up!

My sweet little cuddle bug πŸ™‚ Well, since I have painted my nails, I decided to throw them through the wringer and see how much this polish could actually handle. I swept, I scrubbed, I vacuumed, I peeled Mickey Mouse stickers off of furniture… so far, no chips! I am sure this will change by tomorrow or the next day, but I have to say, I’m pretty impressed! I may look into some matte top coats and see if any of those help with the lifetime of the polish on the nails because I am really loving the matte!

And I forgot to mention that I got these as a set from Sephora (I should probably go to S.A. Sephora-holics Anonymous). I do not remember the price but you guys are smart, I trust you can find it if you want it! πŸ™‚ (EDIT! I actually got this set from Ulta last month or so haha I confuse myself sometimes!)

Speaking of Sephora… Anyone a BI, VIB or Rouge? I keep checking for the “Epic Rewards” to drop! I’m so excited, but trying not to be too excited because I will probably pass out during B’s nap and miss all the good stuff πŸ˜‰

Next post will probably be next week if it is not tomorrow (gotta work to pay the bills!), and will be a more mommy-centric post. I’m thinking a little comedy relief of Why My Kid Is Crying. Spoiler, he’s 2… he is supposed to cry at the most insane moments! haha

First Look; First Post

I have always been a fan of reading and writing, I used to write short stories (yes, for fun!) as a kid. I was also in love with makeup at a young age. My grandmother sold Avon and I loved going through and picking out what I wanted from all of her extras!Β She had the most enviable vanity, makeup mirror and makeup collection, so thank you grandma for introducing me to all things beauty! I know she is looking down on me now with a smile!

Anyways… I decided to combine my favorite things, writing, makeup, being a mommy…Β and BOOM! This blog was born. I can’t promise that I will always keep focused in my posts… having a toddler running around keeps you a bit distracted at times! But I will have plenty of stories, mommy tips, beauty product reviews, etc.

My first real post will be some product reviews of my recent Sephora haul, so stay tuned!

Sephora Haul & Product Reviews!

Let me start off by saying that my husband probably thinks I have completely lost it! Haha! He was leaving for work as I was arranging and rearranging all my goodies for pictures… and maybe telling them to stay still!

So… Behold! My Sephora haul, because they have double, triple and quadruple points this week and I just had to step up to Rouge this month…

Oh so pretty!

First up, my early birthday present to myself! Christian Louboutin nail polish in Madame Est Nue

C'est tres chic!
C’est tres chic!
Obviously, not your everyday kind of purchase, unless you have boat loads of money (yacht loads??). $50 for 0.4 fl. oz. but you are paying for the name and looks of the bottle as well as how awesome the polish itself is. It was a little tricky trying to paint my dominant hand, it is a learning experience; but once you figure it out, you will wish you could have the brush handles for all of your polishes!

The color is a light pink (described barely pink) and is a part of the nude collection. I think it dries really fast, it started to get tacky right away. The color is sheer but that probably also depends on how thick or thin your layers are. The polish is super glossy, it looks like it has a top coat on just by itself… but of course, I put a top coat on anyways because I don’t tend to live very dangerously!

Before I applied this gorgeous color, I had to get rid of the old and get a base coat on.

NailsIncCiateThe Ciate White Choc Pot removed at least 5 layers (yes I know that’s excessive) in literally 3 seconds for each nail. Plus, my fingers smelled like white chocolate for long after, I don’t suggesting tasting it though! I felt that the remover left my nails a bit dry, but when I used the Nails Inc. NAILKALE basecoat, they instantly felt better! It was like a little refreshing kale smoothie for my nails! After all of that, and the Louboutin polish, I used the Nails Inc. 45 second top coat (Kensington Caviar). True to it’s name, my nails were dry in under a minute. The polish underneath can still get dented and scratched but the top coat helped waaaaay more than any other kind I have tried before! Did my nails an hour before bed, when I woke up they were still perfectly shiny, no blanket marks!

NARSbdayLippiesNext, NARS lip liners and an eyeliner. I got these from Sephora for free since it is my birthday month. The colors are Cruella (Red), Rikugien (Rose/Nude) and a black eyeliner. I honestly haven’t tried these yet but I have other NARS lip liners and know these are going to be used A LOT!

NirvanaWhiteBlackI used my rewards points from Sephora (100) for the Nirvana Black rollerball. Seriously, how am I just now finding this scent?! Sandalwood, gah! Love! This scent last so long too! One smell and I instantly think of pearls, silk, deep red lipstick… this scent is seriously sultry. As for Nirvana White, it has a nice flowery/summery scent. I think I should have bought the rollerball or standard perfume before trying this oil. It still smells amazing and is super cool using a dropper (hello 1920’s!) but I’m more of a “apply on the go” kind of gal… I can’t really use this while I’m driving. The Nirvana White hand cream is the perfect pairing for either scent. I use hand lotions and cream constantly and I always hate that most of the good stuff out powers my perfume, so this is pretty great for me.

BuxomGuiltyAngelBuxom Guilty Angel is my perfect nude! Plus it smells amazing!! My husband hates the standard lipstick smell, so I am always looking for something he won’t mind kissing off of me πŸ˜‰ Stayed on all day, only had to touch it up a couple of times.

For your #nofilter good looks!
SephoraSunbleachedFilterAny haul would not be complete without an eye shadow palette! This Sunbleached Filter palette has a great assortment of shimmery and matte shadows. The colors are all so perfect for creating any look this summer! I also love the fact that they made the two base shadows larger, thanks Sephora!

HourglassImmaculateNudeLast, but not least… New foundation by Hourglass, Immaculate in Nude. This is a liquid to powder mattifying and oil free foundation, which is perfect for me since my skin likes to be an oily mess in the summer! Used this for an outdoor wedding last week and my face was the freshest one there (OK, at least second freshest because the bride was drop dead gorgeous!) $50 for 1.0 fl. oz but it is completely worth it! When I work, I need my makeup to stay on for 14+ hours, and this baby powers through!

Leave me some feedback or let me know what you want me to try and review next!

xoxo – Mandy
